Holding the Space for
FEELINGS
Nathen’s Newsletter
February ’18
Warm greetings and blessings to you, dear Friend!
May you be filled with lovingkindness.
May you be safe and protected from all inner and outer dangers.
May you be well in body and mind.
May you be at ease and happy.
THIS MONTH’S TOPIC
Since January, I’ve been thinking, talking, writing and living more deeply into my theme for this year, “Holding The Space”; this month, I’d like to look at FEELINGS.
With humility, I must confess that recent events in my life have led me back to one of my biggest life lessons: that I can’t THINK my way forward, I have to FEEL my way forward.
Being the “linear” Virgo that I am, living this lesson can be VERY challenging. Feelings are MESSY! AND, sooner or later, if I’m not living this lesson, I get to a point where I’m either overwhelmed by my feelings and blurt them out, or I suffer from them being blocked inside of me.
Fortunately, there are GREAT resources available to help with the expression of feelings. I’m currently reading “Feelings First!”, the latest book by Doug and Naomi Moseley (a couple that I had the good fortune of working with years ago). As I read it, I’m re-membering many of the lessons that they taught me and am putting them (back) into practice.
And, in my continuing exploration of open-ended questions vs. affirmations (such as “How can I make this day the best that it can be?”), I’ve discovered “Afformations” by Noah St. John). It too has been a big help.
Combining these two ideas, I now have a great answer to the question I posed in last month’s newsletter – the simplest question I can ask to get present (which is the ONLY true “game in town”): “What’s the most loving thing that I can do right now, with Ease and Grace and Joy?” To express my feelings!
wooHOO!
YES, YAY and AMEN!
SO – with gratitude and curiosity – I Hold the Space for FEELINGS.
In honour of FEELINGS, I’d like to offer you several of my songs:
Jump Right In (to FEEL, even though it’s messy);
Do That Thing (to celebrate doing whatever makes you FEEL the most alive);
I Can See You (to sing to your younger self, and let him her/him know that it’s now safe for them to FEEL, and that you’re listening);
Little By Little (to remind you that learning how to FEEL is a process).
May they serve you well!

As a very dear and wise friend in Montreal once said to me, “All I can offer you is my experience”.

Much love to you, dear Friend. May you Hold the Space for FEELINGS with Ease and Grace and Joy, and may you go with LOVE.
