Saying YES
to Perfect Self-Expression
Nathen’s Newsletter
June ’17)
Warm greetings and blessings to you, dear Friend!
May you be filled with lovingkindness.
May you be safe and protected from all inner and outer dangers.
May you be well in body and mind.
May you be at ease and happy.
THIS MONTH’S TOPIC
For a while now, it’s been clear to me that the name of the game, the purpose of this existence, is to remember who and what we truly are – sparks of God – and to forgive ourselves when we forget. A big part of being human is forgetting, AND I’m always trying to “improve my batting average” and remember more often.
In the last month, I’ve had some powerful opportunities to remember the wisdom of the body – or, as I like to say, “I can’t think my way forward – I have to FEEL my way forward”.
At this year’s Canadian New Thought Conference (held June 9-11 in Kelowna, BC), I had the great good fortune to serve as part of the music team and to enjoy the presentations of many speakers. Derek Rydall’s closing presentation on Saturday night hit me right in the heart – especially this idea.
After Derek’s presentation at the conference, the music team got back onstage to end the evening with some raucous, roof-raising tunes. I sang James Brown’s “I Feel Good”, and, at the end of the song, greatly inspired by Derek’s talk and full of passion, I purposely knocked over my music stand and let out a loud caveman-like roar – and it felt REALLY good!
In my birth family, I was the oldest of 4 children, and I learned to receive love and attention by being the responsible, dependable one – the “good boy”.
That pattern has served me well ever since, AND it’s only the “light” side of me; I also have a “dark”, passionate side that also needs love and attention.
Karen McMullen is a new friend of mine, and she wrote about this – calling it our desire for “intimate acts of communion with self, others and all of life” – in this brilliant blog post.
THIS is Perfect Self-Expression – as I’ve mentioned in several of my recent newsletters, part of the “square of life”, as written about by Florence Scovel Shinn in her book, “The Game Of Life” (health, wealth, love and perfect self-expression).
wooHOO!
YES, YAY and AMEN!
Bring it ON!
So – with gratitude and curiosity – I eagerly say YES to Perfect Self-Expression in ALL of its forms.
(My “form list” includes [AND is not limited to] singing, playing my instruments, telling stories, making people laugh, being a part of a collective/something bigger than myself, walking, running, cycling, dancing, sex, meditating, listening, EFT/tapping, journaling, eating, bathing, showering, sleeping and napping.)
In honour of Perfect Self-Expression, I offer you a link to my song “Do That Thing”, from my “Little By Little” CD; may it serve you well.
